Scholarship Opportunities
Are you getting ready to graduate from high school? Girl Scouts are recognized around the country as being strongly-driven, self-motivated and high-achieving individuals. There are many scholarship opportunities available to Girl Scouts! For additional questions or comments, contact Glenda Hicks.
Founder's Scholarship
GSCTX is offering ten scholarships in the amount of $1,000 for further or continuing education. The Founder's Scholarship is available to Girl Scouts who are graduating seniors in our council jurisdiction. Please review all guidelines before submitting your application.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active participation in Girl Scouts (affiliation with troop is not necessary)
- Demonstrate academic achievements
- Attendance at a college, university, trade or technical school
Criteria for Consideration
- Overall strength of application and recommendations
- Girl Scout, school, community leadership activities, awards earned and work experience
- Gold Award Achievement
- High school grades and test scores
- Financial need
Application
Texas Elks Scholarship
The Texas Elks State Association offers a $2,500 college scholarship to Girl Scout Gold Award recipients. Applications should be submitted through local lodges. Lodges within the 46 counties served by GSCTX include Austin, Bryan, Brenham, Brownwood, Georgetown, San Angelo, Stephenville and Temple. Visit the Texas Elks website for more.
Young women in Public Affairs Scholarship
Women of any nationality, who are ages 16-19 or studying in a Zonta district/region at the time of application and demonstrate evidence of active volunteerism, experience in local or student government, volunteer leadership achievements and knowledge of Zonta International are eligible to apply. Texas Department of Transportation Conditional Grant Program
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is currently accepting applications for the Conditional Grant Program (CGP). The grant is available to graduating high school seniors and current college students majoring in civil engineering, computer science or management information systems. The maximum amount to be awarded is $3,000 per semester not to exceed $6,000 per academic year.
Scholarships for Military Children
The Scholarships for Military Children Program, sponsored by the Defense Commissary Agency, awards $1,500 scholarships to unmarried children, under the age of 21, of military active duty, Reserve, Guard and retired personnel.
HSC Scholarship Program
The Hispanic Scholarship Consortium (HSC) seeks to accomplish one goal: to open the doors to opportunity for Hispanic students through access to higher education. HSC is a collective of grassroots organizations across Central Texas that, through financial assistance and mentoring, helps Hispanic students get into and succeed in college. From scholarships to college counseling to career development services, HSC’s member and partner organizations offer Hispanic scholars the chance to pursue the first step of their dreams by attaining a college education. Every spring, TXDOT awards one $3,000 and two $1,000 scholarship to graduating Texas high school seniors who take the initiative to combat litter in their schools or communities. Visit http://www.dontmesswithtexas.org/scholarship after February 1 for more details.
